Books by Twigg

Your place to order a completely unique, customized book just for you!
(Makes a perfect gift.)

STEP ONE: I currently offer three price point tiers as follows:

  1. Squire – lowest price point (avaverage $25)
I utilize what I have on hand which significantly cuts down on cost (pleather, fabric covers, plan/any marbled paper scraps I have, plain paper, no silver/gold tooling)
  2. Knight – mid price point (average $40)
A combo of using what supplies I currently have with a potential combo of either… basic gold/silver tooling, upgrade to professional weather friendly bookcloth (special order your color), special order lined paper, decorative elements (i.e. metal corners) etc.
  3. Noble – highest price point (average $60+)
A completely custom order with all of the bells and whistles – more/detailed/intricate gold/silver tooling, professional grade leather cover, embellishments, etc.

All books are custom ordered to your specifications. I work closely with you in either a more hands on method (i.e. you pick all of the elements to build the book) or a more hands off method (i.e. you provide me a general idea of purpose and I apply my skillset to make you something truly unique)!

Example of “Noble” style binding (professional brown leather w/ hand-done blind tooling with gold and a underlay frame [known as “embossing”] style):

STEP TWO: Size.
What size do you want your book to be (length and height; thickness is determined by factors such as paper type, number of pages, etc.)

Current and frequently used templates for unlined pages are:
1. Halfling – 5.5 x 4.5″
2. Bob’s book – 5.5 x 7″ – this is my most popular, regular go-to size
3. the Warlock – 9 x 7″

*Lined pages require a special order; size options will be provided during commission and pending availability.

Examples of sizes:
Halfling (left) & Bob’s book (middle) sizing (example of Bob’s book above template) & Warlock (far right)

STEP THREE: Personalization.
This is where I ask you a handful of questions to help further customize your book. Some might include:

  1. Deadline you need your book by (Squire price point takes about 2-3 weeks; anything else where supplies are ordered take longer, pending shipment times, etc.)
  2. Color scheme (neutral tones, blues, etc.) / overall theme or purpose
  3. Cover material (cloth, vinyl, bookcloth, leather)
  4. End pages preference, if any (plain solid color, pattern, texture, marbled, etc.)
  5. Lined or unlined paper*
  6. How many pages (see gallery below for visual examples of number of pages in a text block)
  7. Paper preference (standard copy white, heavier weight white, cream, pastels, black, watercolor, fountain pen friendly, etc.)
  8. Optional: Any additional A-la cart items (some examples below) you’d like included
  9. If this is a gift, please let me know so as to prevent any spoilers!

STEP FOUR: A-la cart (optional).
Here is a brief list of some items (not all!) that you can potentially add to your commission, pending availability:

  • Custom lined paper (fountain pen friendly)
  • Specialized end paper (marbled, print, texture, etc.)
  • Tea/walnut stained paper (unlined) – done by me!
  • Deckled page edges
  • Headbands (I include these in Knight and Noble price points)

  • In game money (crowns, silver/gold)

Book and Bookbinding terminology
Bonus points for using any of the below terminology when working with me to place your order!

End Paper: the decorative paper that is adhered to the cover and/or also is the first and last pages of the book; these are included in both the front and back.

Head/Tail-Band: A very small piece of decorative material that slightly overhangs the text block; this also functions to keep dust from collecting in the shelved book which over time will weaken the spine durability.

Signatures: A group of folded pages that are sewn together to create a Text Block.

Text Block: A group of Signatures that have been bound together and are ready to have the cover attached.

Fore-edge: This is the end of the Text Block that shows when the book is closed.

Techniques:
Blind-tooling: A brass tool is heated and carefully applied to leather or bookcloth to create a deep impression/design
Gilding: A combination of the above with gold leaf pressed into the designs creating a strong, elegant statement
Embossing: Layers that go over the Case board and are underneath the cover material, creating a 3-D effect. Best paired with leather.

***I do offer New Player discounts. Therefore if you are a new player, please let me know and I’ll work with you on pricing.***

DISCLAIMERS:

  • Since all books are handmade, there might be slight imperfections (such as the fore-edges being a bit rough, end papers not 100% aligned, etc.) These imperfections will not hinder the durability and overall look of your book.
  • I do not currently have the ability to Blind-tool letters.* I am somewhat limited by the professional tools that I have, however I will do my best to accommodate very specific design requests. (If you’re curious as to how expensive these tools can be, check out their prices HERE. Most start at $57.)
  • *Any designs that I cannot accomplish with professional brass tools, I will utilize my embossing pen; this will not make as deep as an impression into the cover material but will still provide a stunning elegant finish and design! (Custom brass tools can be ordered/commissioned if necessary at an additional cost.)
  • Pricing is subject to change, material costs, shipping, deadline timing, etc. I will do my best to quote you a base price before beginning any work so you’re not subjected to any surprise fees.

TIPPING IS APPRECIATED! Any proceeds made will be contributed to expanding my tool collection, thus providing you with more options and professional results.
