Do you have a question that I haven’t answered below?
Email me at: buerstudio@yahoo.com
Q: How much do you charge?
A: For painting commissions, I am currently requesting cost of supplies (and shipping if required). Any additional funding you’d like to contribute is always appreciated.
For book commissions, please see my “Books by Twigg” page for price points and options.
Q: Why are you asking so little?
A: As an unknown artist, the most important goal is that you enjoy my work (and for me to get my name out there).
Q: Why didn’t you name your studio “Twigg”?
A: Surprisingly there are numerous individuals named Twigg. Personally I know of a Twigg the fairy (I’m known as Twigg the pirate to differentiate). There is also Twiggy the model. Therefore Buer studio is the vessel that houses my artistic spirit.
Q: What does Buer mean?
A: Buer is a spirit that appears in the 16th century grimoire Pseudomonarchia Daemonum. “He is associated with the Sun and the astrological sign of Sagittarius [which is my sign]. He is known to teach natural and moral philosophy, logic, and the virtues of all herbs and plants, and is also capable of healing all infirmities (especially of men).”
I first came across this mythical creature at a local Renaissance Festival in the form of a beautiful pendant! I’ve always considered myself a “healer”/support character in life.
Q: What’s the deal with your slogans?
A: “Long live paint” is a call back to comedian Jim Breuer (strangely enough his last name is somewhat similar to my studio name – no relation) who, in one of his skits (which is super hilarious and I highly suggest checking it out), enthusiastically proclaims “long live paint”! I feel that this phrase on it’s own encapsulates my love and appreciation for the arts.
“The devil is in the detail” featured on promotional armbands has several meanings. Personally, I feel that the struggling artist is real. We are driven by conflict and struggle and often our art is a result of our constant internal battle. Additionally this is also a reference to Aesthetic Perfection’s song “The Devil’s in the Detail” from the All Beauty Destroyed album. (He’s one of my favorite musical artists.) This album title often times reflects my creation process: go one step beyond; you’ll either end up with a wonderful work or destroy that which you created and will have to start anew.
Q: Why do you sign the back of your paintings?
A: I do not wish to have the placement of my signature influence how the painting should be displayed. That is up to the observer. Everyone interprets art differently.
Also I have a very unique “signature”. You’ll have to commission a work to find out about it.
Q: What artists inspire you?
A: Here are just a few to get you started: Anton Corbijn, Francis Bacon, Mark Rothko, Kazimir Malevich, Ville Juurikkala…
